Advisory: UPD taking simple additional COVID-19 precautions with public

by University Police Department  |

To ensure the health and safety of our community, the University Police Department (UPD) is taking simple additional precautionary steps to prevent the potential exposure to and spread of COVID-19:

  • Dispatchers and officers will be asking the public COVID-19 related questions to prevent unintentional exposure to the virus.
  • Officers may wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when physically interacting with the public. Expect to see different types of PPE worn depending on the situation. If you see an officer wearing PPE, it does not necessarily mean COVID-19 is present.
  • All community engagement activities/events, such as crime prevention programs, R.A.D., public appearance requests and more, have been suspended until further notice.
  • The UPD headquarters is closed to the public.
  • If it is not an emergency but you need to a file a police report, a UPD Officer may contact you via telephone to take the report instead of collecting the information in person.

The health and safety of the UAA community is always UPD’s top priority. These precautionary measures are designed to further assist in protecting the health and safety of our community. These extra measures will not impact the quality of service UPD provides every day.

If you have an emergency, call 9-1-1 and for non-emergencies call 907-786-1120.

We are all in this together and will get through this together.

Stay safe, stay calm and stay protected.
