Farewell, Seawolves
by Cathy Sandeen, UAA Chancellor |
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
In September 2018, I stepped off the plane at Ted Stevens International Airport to begin my tenure as chancellor of Alaska’s largest university. It’s been an extraordinary two years getting to know Seawolves as students, faculty, staff, alumni and community supporters. I’ve learned so much about the 49th state, the culture and what the Alaska spirit is all about. Although I’m trading in my Xtratufs for sandals as I prepare to head to California, I will take the experiences of the last two years in the Far North with me. From the November earthquake to helping rally the community during financial exigency, to collaborating with leaders across the university and the state to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been eventful.
Thank you for welcoming me to the Seawolf family and although leaving is bittersweet, I leave you a message of hope and resilience for the future of UAA and of course, a little humor.
Sincerely,
Cathy Sandeen
UAA Chancellor
