The University of Alaska Board of Regents will review and approve the university’s proposed FY22 operating and capital budget requests, and consider a tuition rate increase limited to UAF upper-division and graduate tuition in recognition of the tuition rates at UAF peer institutions in the western states. The important contributions of UAA’s and UAF’s engineering programs to the state’s workforce will also be highlighted.

Kenai Peninsula College, Kenai River Campus is accepting employment applications for the position of Facilities Operations and Maintenance Supervisor. This position is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the Kenai River Campus facilities, supervises three full time employees and works closely with the director regarding facilities budget, oversight and development. This is a 12-month, full time position offering benefits and tuition waivers. It is a grade 80, exempt position with a bi-weekly salary of $2,235.20. We all have experienced quite a year, and it's not over yet. The U.S. is holding our national elections Tuesday, Nov. 3. We hope every member of our community votes — either in person, absentee, mail-in ballot, early voting or on the day of the election. If you have questions about where or how to vote, please check the Alaska Division of Elections website. The UAA Anchorage campus Student Union will be open as an early voting location from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2; and from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3.

UAA Student Health and Counseling Center will host a flu shot clinic on Election Day, Nov. 3, from noon to 2 p.m., at the UAA/APU Consortium Library, south entrance facing Providence Drive. Open to UAA students, employees and employee family members 18 years and older.

On April 1, 2020 the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) went into effect and created new leave balances for all university employees. Under current federal law, options will sunset on December 31, 2020. The University of Alaska, however, recognizing the need for employees to have access to COVID-19 leave will extend the leave benefits through June 30, 2021. The university will not be replenishing any used Emergency Sick Leave (ESL) or Expanded Family and Medical Leave (EFML), but this does mean that new hires after December 31, 2020 will also receive Emergency Sick Leave balances and be eligible to apply for EFML.

Knockout November is a series of activities designed by Kinesiology students from HPER to keep the community active and staying healthy during the end of the semester! Physical activity has been proven to have many health benefits and we know the winter can be a hard time to find that motivation to stay physically active, but we have you covered! All you have to do is "Zoom" in and try your best!

We invite you to join UAA Student Success and Native Student Services in screening a 30-minute segment of the highly acclaimed College Behind Bars series on Friday, Nov. 13. The virtual screening will begin at Noon followed by a live question-and-answer session with Sebastian Yoon, Bard Prison Initiative alum. This screening will not only demonstrate the power of education, but it also raises critical questions about prison and educational opportunities that we need to address.

To help people process their responses to the election, UAA will offer structured online drop-in groups for gathering to share feelings, fears, needs and hopes. These groups will not be about arguing for positions or candidates, but rather a chance to share on a more personal level.
