Oct. 16 Core Competency Forum: Workshop on Personal, Professional and Community Responsibility at UAA

In Spring 2020, the UAA community selected four institution-wide core student learning competencies. This year, UAA is highlighting the competency of Personal, Professional, and Community Responsibility. Because it is an institution-wide competency, we need to think about how this kind of student learning occurs in both traditional classroom settings and more broadly in student activity and service settings.

UA Foundation names Dr. Tod A. Burnett as president

The University of Alaska Foundation Board of Directors has named Dr. Tod A. Burnett as president of the University of Alaska Foundation and chief development officer of the University of Alaska. Dr. Burnett, was previously the executive vice chancellor for advancement at Brandman University, Irvine, CA, has extensive experience in higher education philanthropy and non-profit leadership. Dr. Burnett succeeds Susan Foley who retired in August and will begin his presidency on November 8, 2020.

The UAA Center for Human Development is hiring a FT Research Professional 2

The Center for Human Development is seeking applications for a Research Professional. This individual will work as part of the Center's research and evaluation team to complete project objectives. Requirements include the ability to organize, plan, and design, research/evaluation activities, analyze and synthesize results, and write project reports. The mission of the UAA Center for Human Development (CHD) is to improve the quality of lives for people who experience disabilities and their families, across the life span, through interdisciplinary training, technical assistance, exemplary service development, applied research and dissemination of information. The goals and activities of CHD are guided by the values of integration and inclusion, self-determination, individual and family empowerment, cultural sensitivity, diversity, community referencing, independence, and productivity. UAA Psychological Services Center providing telehealth COVID-19 coping sessions

In addition to its usual counseling services for adolescents and adults, the UAA Psychological Services Center (PSC) is offering free telehealth COVID-19 Coping Sessions for people struggling with sadness, loneliness, anxiety, trouble sleeping, lack of motivation, or other behavioral health concerns while dealing with these trying times. The COVID-19 Coping Session is a free single, one-hour session with a mental health clinician that will be conducted via Zoom or phone. Call 786-1795 to schedule your COVID-19 Coping Session.

Update on campus alignment

The Change and Leadership Group on Academic Alignment had an initial meeting with Chancellor Sandeen to review the group’s charge and introductory materials and ask questions. The group requested the addition of several members and the chancellor agreed.

It's that time of year again... mounted winter tires for sale

Set of 4 Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires mounted on VW 17" rims for sale. The tires are size 205/55R17 and the wheels are 17" with a lug spacing of 5 x 112mm. I purchased the tires from Anchorage Tire Factory in October 2018 and used them for two seasons, and I recently sold the car they would have been mounted on. There is a ton of tread left, and I'm letting them go for $300. Photos available.

Celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day

Oct. 12 is Indigenous Peoples Day, an opportunity to celebrate Alaska Native people and communities. UAA recognizes and values the diversity of our unique location in Southcentral Alaska, the ancestral homelands of the Dena’ina, Ahtna Dene, Alutiiq/Sugpiaq, Chugachmiut and Eyak peoples.
