In response to Audit Committee direction, UA leadership to develop budget options

This week the Audit Committee of the Board of Regents will meet to discuss important budget matters and identify meaningful ways to meet the budget shortfall caused by a number of factors, most notably state funding cuts, enrollment decline and the fiscal impact of COVID-19.

The UAA Office of Emergency Management would like to thank the many people who volunteered to make cloth face masks for our essential employees and resident students still on campus to pick up from the Student Health and Counseling Center. Inventory is now very low and, over the coming weeks, it is anticipated that the need will remain as some people and projects are approved for work on campus.

Harvard report on plastics highlights biotechnology patented by UAA researchers

The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School recently published a key policy paper that proposes a framework for curbing global marine plastic pollution, "Policy and Action on Plastics in the Arctic Ocean." Among several research and policy recommendations, the report advances UAA's Rhizoform LLC as a positive example of how innovators and industry can work together to solve the plastic pollution problem

Human Services Summer Institute and Conference

The UAA Department of Human Services is offering an array of upper-level course electives over mental health and substance abuse including a Human Trafficking course and virtual conference this summer. The Human Trafficking elective is a hybrid course and conference available to both students and community members and can be taken as a full UAA summer course or through the conference option only.

I want to wish you all a great summer. This year has brought many challenges, and I am grateful to all our faculty, staff and students for your flexibility. We are currently making plans for the fall 2020 semester. We know it will look a little different from past fall semesters due to the COVID-19 situation.
