UAA announces CBPP dean; director of Multicultural Student Services

Dear UAA Faculty and Staff,
We are so pleased to announce new leadership hires for both UAA academic and student services positions.
College of Business and Public Policy dean
Dr. John Nofsinger was selected to be dean of the UAA College of Business and Public
Policy (CBPP). He has served as interim dean of CBPP since spring 2020 and is also
a professor of finance and the Seward Chair in international finance at UAA. John
has been instrumental in developing courses for classroom delivery, online and remote
locations. Throughout his career, he authored and co-authored 12 finance trade, text
and scholarly books that have been translated into eight languages. His book, The
Psychology of Investing, is popular with investment advisors. He is a prolific scholar,
having published over 70 articles in prestigious scholarly and practitioner journals.
Multicultural Student Services director
Sara Caldwell-Kan will join UAA as the new director of Multicultural Student Services
on July 14. She comes from Oregon State University (OSU) where she served as the interim
assistant director, Diversity & Cultural Engagement; interim director, Asian & Pacific
Cultural Center. During her time at OSU, Sara led and developed co-curricular programming
that centers racial and ethnic identities, experiences and histories, as well as training
around intercultural communication, identity development and social justice. In prior
roles, she worked in student engagement, peer wellness and college access. Sara has
a master's degree in public health and is currently finishing her Ph.D. in language,
equity and education policy.
We’d like to extend special thanks to John Petraitis and Kori Callison for co-chairing the CBPP dean search committee and Jennifer Booz for chairing the Multicultural Student Services director search committee. Our gratitude also goes out to all the search committee and community members who participated in these important recruitments.
