Get vaccinated!

Spirit gets the COVID-19 vaccine at UAA's Student Health and Counseling Center

Dear Seawolves,

UAA is not requiring you to be vaccinated against COVID-19, unless you are living on campus this fall. Even so, with 70% of adults in the United States now having at least one COVID-19 vaccination shot, I want to be sure you have information that may be helpful, in case you are currently not vaccinated.

Vaccines have proven to be effective protection against COVID-19 and members of the UAA community are encouraged to protect themselves appropriately. Part of protection includes learning the facts about vaccines so you can make well-informed decisions.

Because of increased social activities, and the circulation of more concerning variants such as the highly transmissible Delta variant, health officials continue to caution there is an increased risk of COVID-19 infection for people who aren’t fully vaccinated.  If you are going to be in a classroom setting with others and are currently not vaccinated, I strongly encourage you to get vaccinated now.

You can get a free vaccine at the UAA Student Health and Counseling Center (SHCC), which is located in Rasmuson Hall room 116. The Center is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 907-786-4050 for more information or to make an appointment. Both Pfizer and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccines are available by appointment for anyone affiliated with the University of Alaska.

The UAA Student Health and Counseling Center also provides:

  • COVID-19 testing for students and specified essential personnel.
  • In-person health care services to students for physical exams and visits for illnesses or injuries. Some types of physical health appointments can be provided via telehealth if the student prefers.
  • Mental health care in-person or via telehealth. Medication management visits are primarily done in person. Telehealth sessions are conducted through HIPAA-compliant video conferencing.

I wish you the very best for a successful beginning to your fall semester. Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions or need assistance getting prepared for the semester.

Sincerely,
Ben Morton
UAA Dean of Students
