UAA Textbook Affordability seeks several student workers to join us in support of the Alaska Open Education Initiative (AOEI). AOEI is a grant funded by the USDA NIFA that promotes student success and equity at UAA by dramatically reducing the cost of textbooks at UAA, with emphasis on Alaska Native students. The Textbook Affordability/OER Project Assistant (one or two to be hired) will provide support for the AOEI. This position starts at $10.50 per hour but highly qualified candidates may negotiate a higher rate. Position reports to the Consortium Library and works closely with the grant project directors. Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Helping revise or create materials for faculty professional development
  • Helping create curriculum and/or materials for student leadership program
  • Assisting with data collection and analysis
  • Assisting with grant reporting and documentation
  • Assisting with the creation of marketing materials for grant-related events
  • Assisting with/during OER/textbook affordability trainings and information sessions
  • Talking with students, faculty, and administrators about textbook affordability (with support)
  • Other duties as assigned, depending on your unique skill sets and experience combined with grant needs; may include higher-level data analysis, research, web design, media production, graphic design, marketing, etc.

The Student Textbook Affordability Ambassador Program Liaison will play a key role in supporting fellow students who will become Student Textbook Affordability Ambassadors (STAAs) — students undertaking advanced leadership training in outreach and advocacy for high quality, zero-cost textbooks. This position pays $11.50 per hour and reports to Native Student Services (NSS). The Liaison will work closely with the grant project director, NSS staff and the STAAs. Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Helping revise or create materials for student leadership development
  • Outreach and coordination with STAAs
  • Leading student project progress sessions
  • Recruiting program feedback
  • Assisting with data collection and analysis
  • Assisting with grant reporting and documentation
  • Other duties as assigned, depending on your unique skill sets and experience combined with grant needs; may include data analysis, research, web design, media production, graphic design, marketing, development of learning materials, etc.
