The Alaska Journal of Commerce released its annual list of the top young professionals in the state. Selected from a field of 114 nominations, the 2021 Top Forty Under 40 recipients exemplify excellence in professional and community service.

Be aware of wildlife on and around campus

A black bear with cubs has been spotted on and around the Anchorage campus, specifically in the area near the Engineering & Industry Building. Although foot traffic on campus is minimal, this is a good time to remind everyone to be aware of surroundings and take safety precautions when venturing outside.

Congratulations on a successful academic year. I hope you all were able to tune into our virtual graduate hooding and commencement ceremonies over the weekend. Our student speakers gave inspiring addresses. I hope their words reinforced the importance of the work you do each and every day to provide our students with the best possible experience to help them achieve their educational dreams.

2021 Annual Assessment Retreat (May 6, 9 a.m.-noon via Zoom)

While required for all academic assessment coordinators, deans, and community campus directors, this year’s Retreat will broaden out to include folks from across the institution to continue our conversation about the Core Competency Personal, Professional, and Community Responsibility. In particular, the Retreat will be of interest to anyone engaged in assessment and evaluation activities for their area.

Provost announces new College of Arts and Sciences dean

Dr. Jenny McNulty

Dr. Jenny McNulty will begin her new role as dean of UAA College of Arts and Sciences on July 1, 2021. An experienced leader in higher education, Dr. Jenny McNulty comes to UAA from Montana, where she is currently the interim provost and vice chancellor of academic and student affairs at the University of Montana Western and a tenured full professor at the University of Montana.
