Latest: NWCCU Evaluation

by Sean Parnell, UAA Chancellor  |

Dear UAA Students, Faculty and Staff,

I received news today that the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) has officially accepted UAA’s Mid-Cycle Self-Evaluation Report, with no additional requirements noted. This is an outstanding result for UAA, our students, and the communities we serve.

This news further inspires me to find ways to make the excellent educational opportunities at UAA, which is a fully accredited public university, more readily available to our communities and our state.

Today’s news follows the submission of a Mid-Cycle Self-Evaluation report in August and a virtual site visit in October of two peer evaluators. The evaluators assessed UAA’s progress in the areas of mission fulfillment, student achievement, the assessment of student learning, and the closing of equity gaps. The evaluators were impressed with UAA faculty, staff and students and noted that UAA is serious about putting students first; knows and is passionate about its mission; and that students expressed care and concern for their faculty and staff. The Commission’s vote of confidence today, is the result of what the evaluators observed and Commission members reviewed in the report.

We’d like to congratulate and thank all of those who helped us achieve this successful mid-cycle evaluation. Let’s keep up the good work as we have more work to do — including growing opportunities for our students to develop UAA’s core learning competencies and demonstrating student achievement and closing equity gaps — before we are reaffirmed by the NWCCU in Year 7.

Thanks for all you do to make UAA an amazing place to learn, teach and work.

With green & gold gratitude,
Sean Parnell
UAA Chancellor
