  • Attend in-person: ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building, Room 120

UAA is facilitating a free online technical assistance event, open to the public, to provide information regarding arrival of Ukrainians displaced by the war. The United States has said it will accept up to 100,000 Ukrainians who have fled their country after Russia’s invasion.

At UAA’s event, Alaska State Refugee Coordinator Issa Spatrisano and immigration attorney Margaret Stock will discuss how the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program operates and provide an overview of the Lautenberg Amendment and services for refugees in Alaska. They will also talk about what’s involved in crossing the border into the U.S. for Ukrainians traveling here, including necessary refugee status documentation and the process of resettlement. Spatrisano and Stock will take questions from the online audience.

Philippe Amstislavski, associate professor of Public Health at UAA, will introduce the speakers and moderate the discussion. Amstislavski has worked in healthcare, public health and international medical relief in Russia, Israel, Europe and the United States.

Translation will be provided.
