2022 Summer Institute on Alaska Social Issues

The UAA Department of Human Services invites students, faculty and staff to attend the 2022 Alaska Forum on Social Justice, Diversity, Recovery and Ethics as part of its Summer Institute series hosting talks with keynote speakers, panelists and peers on Alaska's social issues. The forum is broken into three conference sessions:

Trauma and Addiction: Searching for Healing | Thursday, June 2, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. via Zoom
This conference will explore difficulties that providers encounter in substance use disorder treatment and strategies to overcome client resistance. Current information on substances used and their effects will be reviewed.

Addressing the Trauma in Populations at Risk: Social Justice & Diversity | Friday, June 3, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. via Zoom
The conference will explore perspectives of historical trauma and its impact through the lens of populations at risk, including child abuse victims, immigrants and the LGBTQ community. Protective factors necessary for healing to take place will be discussed.

Preventing Ethical Violations: Taking Risk Seriously | Saturday, June 4, 9 a.m.-noon via Zoom
The conference provides discussions on ethical issues through the lens of risk management and addresses actual situations that resulted in ethical violations, complaints and lawsuits.
