Seawolves post exhibition sweep to open 2022 campaign

ANCHORAGE (Aug. 13) – Eve Stephens had 12 kills and fellow senior Ellen Floyd tallied 27 assists, seven kills and three aces Saturday as the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team made its 2022 debut with a 25-19, 25-13, 25-18 exhibition victory over the Seawolf Alumni at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves also got 10 kills on .333 hitting from senior outside hitter Lisa Jaunet and eight digs along the back row from freshman Madison Galloway.

The alumni were led by nine kills on .292 hitting from outside hitter Anais Vargas (2016-17), while liberos Siobhan Johansen (2010-13) and Quinn Barker (2013-14) had eight digs apiece. Setters Morgan Hooe (2013-16) and Calli Scott (2008-09) – both former Great Northwest Conference Players of the Year as seniors – combined for 21 assists.

A two-time AVCA All-American from Palmer, Stephens added seven digs and hit .370 on the night, while Floyd hit .600 and finished with six digs and two block assists. Sophomore Leilani Elder led UAA with four total blocks.

The Seawolves make their regular-season debut Aug. 19-20 with matches against NCAA Div. II West Region rivals Hawaii Pacific, Hawaii Hilo and Chaminade in Honolulu. The home season gets under way the following week when UAA hosts the Seawolf Invitational at the Alaska Airlines Center, beginning Aug. 25 against Lubbock Christian.
