The UAA/APU Consortium Library is looking for a Circulation Clerk to join our team. The Circulation Department at the Consortium Library is responsible for the maintenance of the collection for public access, circulation materials into and out of the library, and providing a first point of contact for general patron questions.

July 20: UA Giving Day Planning Meeting

UA Giving Day is November 2-3, 2022! This is our 3rd annual UA Giving Day, celebrating UAA, UAF, and UAS in 49 hours for Alaska. Last year UAA had 200 registered Giving Day volunteers, and the whole UA system raised over $1 million to support our students.

Exploring Alaska's microbe frontiers

Kodi Haughn takes the lead as students in UAA Biological Sciences Professor Brandon Briggs' lab depart after sampling microbes at the foot of Worthington Glacier.

UAA Biological Sciences Professor Brandon Briggs and students in his lab have traveled throughout Alaska to study the microbes and microbial processes associated with extreme environments in polar regions. By looking at how these “extreme microbes” respond to and manipulate their environments, the researchers hope to better understand how glaciers change over time.

UAA receives $3M grant to boost ESL endorsements in Alaska

Provided by the Office of English Language Acquisition, the federal grant will help the School of Education’s language and literacy education graduate certificate program provide students and teachers with development opportunities that increase their knowledge, confidence and skills in language, literacy and content instruction for English learners.

Dr. Dennis Humphrey appointed interim director of Prince William Sound College

Through a search committee process, Dennis Humphrey, Ph.D., has been selected to serve as the interim director of Prince William Sound College (PWSC), beginning July 17, 2022. Humphrey’s appointment will run through the upcoming academic year, with a permanent director to be named late in the spring of 2023.

Semester by the Bay student Adina Allen recognized with National Student Exchange achievement award

Adina Allen participated in the Semester by the Bay program while on exchange to the University of Alaska-Anchorage. She delivered two professional presentations, submitted a research proposal, presented a field report in poster form, and wrote and recorded an educational segment for a local radio station.

July 8: 'Birth of Planet Earth' and 'Dynamic Earth' at the UAA Planetarium

We are showing our newest film, Birth of Planet Earth, alongside another fulldome film all about our planet, Dynamic Earth. Presenter, Omega Smith (UAA Planetarian and NASA Solar System Ambassador) will speak about how NASA is studying Earth in many different ways and what we have learned from these missions.
