Learn to Build a Snow Shelter!

by Green & Gold News  |

Learn to build a basic snow pile shelter, also known as a quinzhee, Friday, Feb. 17. Quinzhees are fun to build as a family snow fort, for overnight camping or for use in survival situations. They're easy to make and are quite warm compared to a winter tent.

We will be meeting twice in front of the Administration building. We'll build a shelter in two sessions, making our pile in the morning and digging it out in the afternoon.

Morning session: 8–9 a.m.
Afternoon session: 3:30–5 p.m.
You may attend one or both as it works with your schedule.

Notes:

  • Sunrise is at 8:36 a.m. and sunset is 5:52 p.m.
  • Wear clothing that will keep you warm and dry.
  • This event is highly weather dependent. Any changes will be announced to registered participants.
