Pricing Wildlife and Outdoor Recreation

by Green & Gold News  |

What’s the value of a bear in the wild? How much is a dipnetting trip worth, and is salmon caught while dipnetting more valuable than commercially-caught salmon?

Lots of things in nature don’t have a market price, but economists “put a dollar” on them anyway. The UAA College of Business and Public Policy Department of Economics continues its Economics After Hours Speaker Series on Thursday, April 6 from 6-8 p.m. with a presentation from Aaron Enriquez, postdoctoral researcher.

Please join us at The Writer’s Block Bookstore & Café (3956 Spenard Road) for his presentation covering the why and how of nonmarket valuation, with applications to charismatic wildlife species, highly-visited national parks, and Alaskan fisheries.

Light refreshments and cash bar available.
