Title: Invasive Plants, Native Solutions: Coastal Restoration in O'ahu, Hawaii

Synopsis: This capstone focuses on invasive plant management and native habitat restoration along the coastal areas of O'ahu, Hawaii. It centers on a sand dune restoration project executed from 2018 to the present year at Bellows Air Force Base. The project addresses the removal of invasive ironwood trees (Casuarina equisetifolia) at Bellows Beach, which have been identified as contributors to coastal erosion and beach loss. By detailing the removal process and subsequent restoration work, involving the planting of native coastal vegetation, this presentation offers insights into the project’s ongoing efforts to stabilize the Bellows shoreline and restore coastal dune habitat in southeast O'ahu.
