Important Update for Third Party Email Services

by Green & Gold News  |

Beginning in February, Google and Yahoo will begin requiring organizations that send more than 5000 emails a day to Google or Yahoo email addresses to perform additional configuration for those emails to ensure mail continues to be delivered to alaska.edu email accounts.

Affected Services

The University has a plethora of services that likely meet the criteria. Unfortunately, most are not managed by IT Services. If you use a service that sends mass emails, please reach out to us and let us know so we can work with you to ensure the services you rely on continue to function.

Example services that will be impacted

  • Third party marketing solutions like Mailchimp and Salesforce Marketing Cloud. (IT has Salesforce covered, but we aren’t aware of everyone using Mailchimp or similar so reach out to us if you are!)
  • Qualtrics or other survey software.
  • Genius, Blackboard, or other LMS or SIS systems
  • 25Live or other calendar services
  • Any other service that impersonates an alaska.edu email address when sending emails.

Timeline

Changes start to go into effect at Google and Yahoo on Feb. 1. Please try to let us know about your services by Friday, Jan. 12 so we can work with you to properly configure things before then.

What do we need to know?

  • Name of service or software
  • Website address for service or software
  • The domain the incoming emails are sent from (e.g.: zoom.us or microsoft.com)
  • The UAA point-of-contact for the service or software (name and email address)

Thank you!
