Out of the Darkness Mat-Su Campus Walk

by Green & Gold News  |

Be the Change! Join the campus community in spotlighting suicide awareness with the Mat-Su College Out of the Darkness Campus Walk. MSC is teaming up with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to host the awareness walk on our campus.

According to AFSP, students are a force for change. Be a part of this walk and join thousands of students across the country to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Together we can bring mental health conditions like depression and anxiety out of the darkness and put a stop to this loss of life.

Participation in this walk is open to the wider Mat-Su community and is not just limited to those with a direct connection to the campus. So, Spread the word to everyone you know!

It's important for Mat-Su College and AFSP to partner up to bring awareness to suicide because it is an issue that impacts our students and community directly and/or indirectly. So many people have had to fight through difficult thoughts or have lost someone to suicide. The more we talk about it, the more comfortable people will feel reaching out for help. We want to make sure our students know they are not alone.

I think it is also important to note that aside from the resources available to all Alaskans, MSC students are eligible for up to three free counseling sessions through Mat-Su Health Services. Students can call the scheduling office and 24-hour crisis line at 907-376-2411.
