WASHINGTON – Today, Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan delivered an address to a Joint Session of Congress. To celebrate, Rep. Peltola (D-AK) invited Katie Scoggin, President of University of Alaska, Anchorage’s Model United Nations as her guest.

“The Prime Minister of Japan came to Congress today, and to mark the occasion and celebrate, I invited the President of UAA’s Model United Nations Program, Katie Scoggin.” said Rep. Peltola. “Katie is a great example of the important role the University plays in getting young Alaskans involved in policy - from local issues to international politics.”

“[I liked] the hopefulness of [the Prime Minister’s] message and really wanting to emphasize the importance of the bonds that we have with our allies. I really appreciated that he touched on emerging technologies, as that was this year’s conference topic for UAA’s Model United Nations.” said Katie Scoggin. “Alaska borders two foreign countries and shares the Pacific and Arctic with many more, so it’s essential that Alaskans are involved in our country’s relationships with our allies–like Japan.”
