Penalties sink Seawolves

No. 1 Denver University (DU) scored four power-play goals to defeat Alaska Anchorage 6-2 in the regular season-opener for both squads Saturday night.
The Seawolves were whistled for 27 penalty minutes, while the Pioneers finished with four penalty minutes.
Aiden Thompson capitalized on the first powerplay opportunity of the game for the Pioneers with the game’s first goal at 4:54 of the first period.
Aiden Westin tied the game at 1-1 with his first goal of the season on the powerplay at 13:28 of the first period. Ryan Johnson earned his first career point with an assist on the goal.
Sam Harris scored DU’s second power-play goal at 15:54 to give the Pioneers a 3-2 lead at the first intermission.
Denver scored three goals in the second period, including two during a five-minute major penalty by the Seawolves.
Jake Fisher scored the final Denver goal at 5:13 of the third, and Joey Potter scored his first goal for the Seawolves unassisted in the final minute.
DU out-shot UAA 38-12.
Greg Orosz finished with 32 saves in net for the Seawolves.
