Portland, Ore. (Dec. 9) – After posting consecutive double-doubles and leading his team to its first league victory, Alaska Anchorage junior Bishop Tosi was named Monday as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for men’s basketball.

A 6-6 forward, Tosi averaged 14.5 points on 80 percent shooting, 11.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.0 block per game as UAA split home contests with Saint Martin’s and Western Oregon. The former Bartlett High School star also committed just one turnover in 65 total minutes.

On Thursday, Tosi had 11 points (5-7 FG, 1-1 3FG), 11 rebounds, a career-high six assists and no turnovers in a narrow 79-74 loss to the Saints. He followed with a season-high 18 points (7-8 FG), 11 rebounds and five assists to lift the Seawolves over the Wolves, 71-49, on Saturday.

“Bishop was outstanding this weekend and extremely efficient,” said UAA head coach Rusty Osborne. “His ability to score and facilitate from the forward position adds versatility to our offense and opens up opportunities for his teammates. Defensively, his rebounding was huge. After being forced out for a year with an injury, he is starting to get his timing back with a new group. We are excited to watch him continue to improve.”

It is the first GNAC Player of the Week honor of Tosi’s career and the first for a Seawolf this season.

UAA (6-7, 1-1 GNAC) returns to action with games Dec. 19-20 against Colorado State-Pueblo and Johnson & Wales (R.I.) at the Hoops In Hawaii Classic in Honolulu.
