Welcome to spring semester!

Despite the challenges of these times, I hope everyone had a much needed break during the holiday closure. I want to welcome you to the spring semester. This semester, UAA leadership and faculty are not only focused on learning and career preparation, but also the health and safety of the UAA community. In light of an uptick of COVID-19 cases in Alaska, I am sharing new information to help you prepare for a successful semester.

A new year brings new challenges

As we begin spring semester, I want to acknowledge the recent challenges our community members have faced. Illness and personal loss, widespread weather-related damage, extreme travel delays and related expenses, and a host of other challenges have made the transition to the new year particularly difficult.

Office of the Registrar invites applicants for Transfer Credit Specialist position

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for the position of Transfer Credit Specialist within the Office of the Registrar. UAA's Office of the Registrar is a forward-looking group working behind the scenes to find and produce innovative ways to improve the student, faculty and staff experience at UAA.

Important update on spring 2022 course delivery

UAA has made the decision to temporarily allow instructors to shift their courses to remote delivery for the first two weeks of spring semester. Your instructor will let you know about their decision in an email and also on Blackboard. If you have questions, please contact your instructor.

TRIO Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound hiring multiple positions!

UAA's TRIO Educational Talent Search program is looking for two dynamic Advisor-Coordinators interested in serving first-generation and limited-income high school students in the Anchorage School District. We are also looking for a TRIO Pre-College Program Assistant to work with both Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound. The review date is Jan. 19, 2022.

Dr. Diane Hirshberg selected as ISER’s director

Dr. Diane Hirshberg, professor of education policy, has been selected as Director for the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER). She is an 18-year veteran of UAA and ISER, and has served in leadership roles such as president of UAA’s faculty senate and advisor to the chancellor on Arctic Research and Education. She was the founding director of the Center for Alaska Education Policy Research and is currently vice-president academic at the University of the Arctic. Dr. Hirshberg holds a PhD in Education from UCLA, a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University, and two bachelor's degrees from UC Berkeley.

Job opening: Email and Digital Communications Specialist

University of Alaska Anchorage Admissions seeks an experienced Email and Digital Communications Specialist to join the Communications Team. This role is integral to the growth of the Admissions Communications Team to be able to serve UAA college recruitment requests. This position will directly impact UAA Admissions capacity to work with Deans and program heads to promote their academic programs and increase enrollment.

Update on spring 2022 and COVID-19 response

I hope everyone enjoyed a well-deserved break during the holiday closure at UAA. We would like to welcome you back to our campuses on Monday, Jan. 3. I am reaching out with information to help you prepare for the spring semester in light of an uptick in COVID-19 cases in Alaska.

COVID Test Kits

The Consortium Library is currently out of COVID test kits. More kits have been ordered and are expected soon. Information will be sent out through Seawolf Daily and Seawolf Students as soon as more are available. Thank you for your patience during this time.
