Summer course materials submission portal open Jan. 25–Feb. 8

The summer textbook and other course materials submission portal at the UAA Anchorage Campus Online Bookstore will be open for Anchorage faculty to submit their summer adoptions from Jan. 25 to Feb. 8. It is important that all Anchorage faculty enter summer course material information, even just to indicate that the class will use Open Educational Resources, other zero cost materials or that there are no required materials for the class.

Six new board members join the University of Alaska Foundation

The University of Alaska Foundation has named six new members to its Board of Directors, each of whom was elected to serve a three-year term beginning in January 2021. The new directors include: Stephanie Erickson, Greater Prudhoe Area Manager, ConocoPhillips Alaska; Jason Gootee, Vice President, Strategic Market Development, Moda Partners, Inc.; Ella Goss, Chief Executive Officer, Providence Alaska Medical Center; Roald Helgesen, Chief Operating Officer, Central Council of Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska; Brian Holst, Executive Director, Juneau Economic Development Council; and, Tim Thompson, External Affairs Manager, Alaska Airlines.

New reports highlight UA’s contribution to Alaskan economy and workforce

An in-depth analysis of nine major Alaska industries captures the impact that university programs have in preparing its students for jobs in Alaska’s workforce. The reports answer key questions related to the largest and fastest growing occupations that require some postsecondary education and highlights important employment indicators such as average wages earned, where UA grads work in Alaska, what industries they work in, and how they help boost the Alaska hire rate.

This address is being presented through CommonWealth North and is supported in part by the University of Alaska Foundation. This event will be held virtually. Community, Connection and Care: Sustaining Ourselves through Difficult Times is an eight-week virtual mindfulness-based course for UAA faculty and staff which will utilize mindfulness practices, readings, and structured dialogue to develop life-long practices for awakening to joy and connection in our lives as a way of sustaining ourselves and others through difficult times.

Hiring Orientation Leaders!

The New Student Orientation office is hiring! We are hiring for our Orientation Leaders (Wolfpack Leaders), these positions help support new students start their journey at UAA, facilitate Howl Days, and support new student programming! These positions will begin training in mid-March and continue through the summer, with an opportunity to continue during the 2021/2022 academic year. Students are welcome to apply online!

UAA 2021 Business Plan Competition offers $10,500 in cash prizes

The 2021 Business Plan Competition, sponsored by UAA's College of Business and Public Policy, has expanded eligibility to include members of the community in addition to UAA students. Entries are due Feb. 8, 2021, but anyone who submits an Intent to Compete form by Dec. 4, 2020 will be invited to a mentoring seminar in January 2021.
