As noted in my email last week, I’m writing to announce that Ms. Jacelyn Keys will join UAA as the director of Kodiak College. Jacelyn has more than 20 years of experience in higher education and has focused on creating a dynamic, vibrant, inclusive, students-first learning environment. She currently serves as the Hermiston Center director at Blue Mountain Community College in Oregon.

UAA alumna Greer Gehler graduated from UAA’s School of Nursing with a bachelor’s degree in nursing science in December 2018. It’s been an exciting two years from landing her dream job in Providence Alaska Medical Center’s emergency room to providing care during COVID-19.

UAA Facilities Planning and Construction (FP&C) is recruiting for a highly motivated, detail-oriented Contracting Officer who is ready to take on multifaceted and exciting work.

In addition to its usual counseling services, the UAA Psychological Services Center is offering free telehealth COVID-19 Coping Sessions for people struggling with sadness, loneliness, anxiety, trouble sleeping, lack of motivation or other behavioral health issues while dealing with these trying times. The COVID-19 Coping Session is a free single, one-hour session with a mental health clinician that will be conducted via Zoom or phone.

As a direct support professional for Sparc, art alumna Jessi Saiki leads a variety of art classes that help individuals celebrate expression and promote independence through creativity.

Natural sciences alumnus Bill Bishop uses his degree in surprising ways as Alaska Communications president and CEO.

The UAA Office of Emergency Management would like to thank the many people who volunteered to make cloth face masks for our essential employees and resident students still on campus to pick up from the Student Health and Counseling Center. Inventory is now very low and, over the coming weeks, it is anticipated that the need will remain as some people and projects are approved for work on campus.

Given the social distancing we are all practicing right now, there has never been a more important time for us to connect to one another. I invite you to be part of an exciting new initiative, Seawolf Mentor, which matches UAA students with peer mentors. This program will help you meet new people and support one another!
