Peony Cooperatives
There are three peony marketing co-ops owned by farmers in Alaska. Alaska Peony Co-op (Mat-Su), Alaska Beauty Peony Co-op (Homer) and the Alaska Peony Market Cooperative (Soldotna). These farms sell within the state and market Alaska peonies to other parts of the US and abroad.
Peonies are coveted flowers for weddings and other special occasions. Alaska’s unique geographic location, late growing season, and long summer days allow Alaska’ peony farmers access an unfulfilled market segment: weddings in July, August and September. Because of this, competition for Alaska peonies is low and demand is high.
Alaska peonies are harvested before they bloom, and shipped as buds to locations world-wide. Once peonies arrive, consumers place the peonies into water and watch as the magic of Alaska’s peonies bloom before their eyes.
