How do you apply for UA scholarships? Go to UAOnline. Click on Financial Aid Information. Click on the Scholarship Menu. Apply for scholarships, taking time to write a very solid and compelling essay. Then you qualify for a variety of scholarships meant for students studying journalism and communications.

Alaska Professional Communicators Scholarships
A $1000 scholarship is offered to Alaska residents who are college or university students planning a career in a communications field by Alaska Professional Communicators, the Alaska Chapter of the National Federation of Press Women. Information is available at www.akprocom.org.
To apply for a scholarship a student must be enrolled at a four-year college. Applications must be submitted by April 4.
Candidates are selected on the basis of promise in their chosen field, need for the scholarship, and scholastic achievement, in that order. Information is also available from scholarship coordinator, Connie Huff, at 550-8464 or chuff@alaskapublic.org
The Memorial Scholarship began in 1981 and is presented in memory of members who have died. Their spirit lives on in the scholarship winners.

Cap Lathrop Endowment Scholarship Fund
Established in 1997 by A.G. Hiebert, GCI and other private donors, the Cap Lathrop Broadcast and Telecommunications Scholarship is for eligible Alaska Native original enrollees/descendants to an ANCSA regional or village corporation. Preference is given to Native original enrollees/descendants of Cook Inlet Region, Inc. An applicant must be a declared major in broadcast, telecommunications, business, engineering, journalism, or other media related degree programs to be considered.

The Chips Quinn Scholars Program for Diversity in Journalism
The Chips Quinn Scholars Program for Diversity in Journalism provides hands-on training and mentoring to qualified applicants through paid internships at newsrooms across the United States. The aim of the program is to improve newsroom diversity and encourage careers in journalism.
The deadline to apply is Oct. 15.

PRSA Leonard McLean Scholarship
The PRSA Alaska Chapter Leonard McLean Scholarship is named for one of the founders of the PRSA Alaska in honor of his contributions to the organization and to the advancement of the profession. The deadline for this scholarship is fast approaching, so go apply right away!
