This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Master of Public Health in Public Health Practice (MPH) Program at UAA. Several Alaska state legislatures joined the annual MPH symposium to celebrate with faculty, alumni and nearly 40 students from the program. The symposium serves as an orientation for students and gives attendees a chance to talk about current public health topics.

UAA Chancellor Sean Parnell welcomed the crowd and introduced Alaska representatives Andrew Gray, Alyse Galvin, Genevieve Mina and Senator Forrest Dunbar. Rep. Gray presented the MPH program with a legislative citation and thanked the department for their work improving the health in their communities.

“It was an honor for the MPH program to be acknowledged for its significant contribution to the state’s public health workforce and workforce development, as well as in helping improve the health of diverse people in Alaska.”

Said MPH Program Coordinator Gabriel Garcia. The MPH program at UAA offers students the opportunity to research and work in Alaska while pursuing a degree.
