Overview

Established by the Board of Regents in 1972, CAAS addresses the problem of substance use in Alaska through interprofessional approaches to education, research, and public service.

Current applied health research focus includes evaluation studies, program and policy development, and training, education, and technical assistance to support our public health workforce (Ongoing research and evaluation projects are described in the "Projects" section). CAAS's research activities are directed at actively stimulating and coordinating interprofessional and collaborative studies, and promoting scientific exchanges of alcohol- and drug-related information. The Center's activities thus make it a vital force within Alaska that helps reduce the public and community health harms associated with substance use drinking and drug use and lessens the impact of substance abuse in the state.
