Biography
In 1990 Mikki moved to Alaska and has lived in Utqiagvik, Atmautluak, Wasilla and
Anchorage. Mikki attended the University of Alaska Anchorage earning her B.A. in Psychology
(2004), Master’s of Social Work (2007), and has an Alaska State License to practice
as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She has been working in Social Services
for over 20 years, 15 of those as a Social Worker. Mikki’s area of expertise is working
with families and individuals in the areas of advocacy, aging, disability and behavioral
health. She worked for the State of Alaska for 14 years and has also worked in private
practice as a care coordinator and therapist. Prior to joining the faculty at UAA
Mikki served as the Deputy Long Term Care Ombudsman for the State of Alaska.
Mikki places value in the education of new social workers and has served as volunteer
field instructor for UAA Social Work Department for many years. She joined UAA as
a faculty member in 2022. She feels passionate about educating social workers and
the positive impact that has on individuals and communities. She believes everyone
plays a role and can contribute to a healthier, stronger and inclusive society.
