Teaching Resources & Support

Instructor and students

Whether you’re new to teaching or an experienced instructor, we have resources to help organize and plan your courses, improve your students’ learning outcomes, try new strategies, and expand your expertise.

“This program and the resources really opened my eyes up to the art of teaching. My responsibility is not just making sure that the students have the information that they need. It is so much more.” - Jodi Pfeiffer, UAA Physical Therapist Assistant Program Director

Cornerstones and Foundations

These resources will help you get started teaching at UAA! We recommend that faculty review the syllabus guide every semester to make sure their policy language and university resources stay current.

For more ideas on how to design and deliver your courses, explore the resources in the Pedagogies and Teaching Practices tab.

Pedagogies and Evidence-Based Teaching Practices

Teaching is a field of continuous improvement and experimentation. There is no one right way to teach, so these resources cover a variety of effective strategies to design your courses, help students learn, assess their progress, and manage your workload. Consider bookmarking the Teaching Practices page, as we add resources regularly.

We also offer workshops and professional development learning communities each year that explore select teaching practices in more depth. Learn about these opportunities on our Programs page.

High Impact Educational Practices

High Impact Educational Practices (HIPs) are a set of evidence-based teaching and learning practices that have been shown to improve learning, sustain and promote knowledge transfer, and increase student retention and completion rates. UAA offers many HIPs such as Study Abroad, but these resources focus on the practices faculty are most likely to incorporate into their courses.
