COVID-19 update from the chancellor

One month into the academic year, I am happy to report that the university’s safety measures against COVID-19 appear to be working. Our collective continued efforts of social distancing, masking indoors, stringent cleaning and a reduced number of individuals on campus, along with our proactive approach to reporting cases, have allowed us to maintain face-to-face classes and work environments. Your continued diligence makes this possible.

New remote work regulation training sessions

Interim President Pitney has approved the updated remote work regulations (R04.01.051.), effective Nov. 1. UA Human Resources is offering training sessions for all employees to review the regulation changes and explain the new processes and resources.

Oct. 15: How to Apply for Agency Jobs - Event for Graduate Students

EPSCoR will host a pair of Zoom presentations for University of Alaska graduate students on the topic of applying for jobs at agencies. The first session, from 9-10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, will feature Heather Coletti of the National Park Service and Amy Holman of NOAA. The second session, from 9-10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, will feature Chris Siddon of the Alaska Department of Fish & Game and Daniel Esler of the USGS.

Please join the UA Security Matters team for their Cybersecurity Awareness Month (CAM) 2021 Kick Off, the first in a series of security awareness webinars this October. This presentation contains an overview of threats and protective measures and is offered in partnership with the National Cyber Security Alliance. This webinar will be offered via Zoom and requires you to be signed in with your University of Alaska account to attend.

The Alaska Center for Rural Health and Health Workforce- Alaska's AHEC is seeking a Student Assistant to assist with general office duties. The AHEC Program aims to engage students into healthcare career pathways, supports health professions students in gaining exposure to rural and underserved communities, and provides technical assistance for health continuing education across the state.

Applications are now available for Fall 2021 Commencement and Leadership Honors. All applicants must be graduating in Fall 2021 and the deadline to apply is Friday, Oct. 8 at 11:59 p.m.

UAA Human Resources office relocation begins Monday, Oct. 4

The Anchorage offices of University of Alaska Human Resources will relocate from the University Lake Building to the Bragaw Office Building beginning October 4, 2021. The official move is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 5, and Wednesday, Oct. 6, and all expectations are that HR Anchorage will be fully operational by Monday, October 11.

Announcing the approval and effective date of updated remote work regulations

In the spring, Interim President Pitney charged a team with researching long-term remote work arrangements, investigating how we can best apply the remote workplace to the University of Alaska, and making recommendations to revise the university policy and regulation accordingly. I am pleased to announce that the team has concluded its work, and Interim President Pitney has approved the updated remote work regulations, effective Nov. 1.
