Hannah Bogdan, a second-year student at Prince William Sound College (PWSC), has been conducting research this academic year in collaboration with the Valdez Native Tribe (VNT), UAF, City of Valdez and Prince William Sound Regional Citizens' Advisory Council.

"The gold status, only our second time earning this recognition, speaks to the resiliency and progress displayed by our military-connected students; UAA could not earn this award without their amazing efforts. For UAA as an institution, it speaks to our continued commitment and dedication to military-connected students," said Jonathon Sanders, Ph.D., interim director of Military and Veteran Student Services (MVSS) at UAA

Dr. Paddy Sullivan, director of the Environment and Natural Resource Institute at UAA, recently teamed up with researchers from Alaska Pacific University and Amherst College on a study funded by the National Science Foundation and published in the journal Science.

The Alaska Journal of Commerce released its annual list of the top young professionals in the state. Selected from a field of 362 nominations, the 2024 Top Forty Under 40 recipients exemplify excellence in professional and community service.

Real estate alumna and 2023-24 Alumni of Achievement A. Janelle Pfleiger is a 45-year real estate agent and former national president of the Residential Real Estate Council. Understanding the enormity of purchasing a new home, Pfleiger works to make sure real estate agents guiding clients through the homebuying process are beholden to the highest code of ethics.

Social work alumna and 2023-24 Alumni Humanitarian Celeste Hodge Growden is the president and CEO of the Alaska Black Caucus. By focusing on the four core areas of justice, education, economics and health, Growden works toward enacting racial equity through the process of institutional reform.

Political science alumna and 2023-24 Alumni Emerging Leader Amie Collins is the executive director of Best Beginnings. Growing up an avid reader, Collins works to pass on that passion to future generations of children and parents by developing early literacy and education initiatives.

UAA joined hundreds of colleges and universities across the country to celebrate TRIO Day on Friday, Feb. 23. The annual event recognizes students, staff, educators and community supporters across all TRIO programs, a federal initiative that launched 60 years ago to support educational opportunities for first-generation, low-income students.
