Legendary boxer "Irish" Micky Ward and Dickie Eklund, his half brother, inspiration
and trainer who inspired the Academy Award winning movie, "The Fighter," are coming
to Anchorage to speak at UAA. Micky and Dickie will be interviewed by the memoir and screenplay writer, Richie
Farrell. Film clips will be interspersed with the conversation. The conversation will
focus on the story told in "The Fighter." Conversations are expected to encompass
Micky's boxing career, the family's struggles to stay together in the face of multiple
obstacles and Dickie's crack cocaine addiction, his time in prison and his rehabilitation.
The evening will include a question and answer session in addition to the film clips and conversations. The three men will sign autographs in the Wendy Williamson lobby at the conclusion of the event.
Current UAA students taking six or more credits can attend this event free. Tickets for the general public are $10 and can be purchased in advance at UAAtix.com.
