Mike Ulroan combined his traditional upbringing stressing self-reliance with the academic support from UAA's ANSEP program to become the first engineer from the village of Chevak. It took eight years, but he finished. "It's not a race," his mentor told him.

After leaving UAA, Felicia continued her education at the world-famous distilleries of the British Isles. She's now the youngest female distillery owner in the nation and, after successfully lobbying for a change in state distillery laws, she's ready to grow her business even more and make the Kenai the 'Napa Valley of Alaska.'
