As secretary general of Model UN, Duke oversees an annual three-day conference at UAA hosting hundreds of students from across the state. It’s a demanding process that earned him Man of Excellence honors from AHAINA, the multicultural student organization, at their 2014 banquet. “It’s been a great ride so far,” he said.

Senior history and German double major Jordan Norquist delved into Alaska WWII history to get a closer look at the context surrounding Alaska's refusal to admit 10,000 Jewish refugees. "It's kind of hard to swallow," she said.

On May 4, UAA will award honorary doctorates to Dr. Alex Hills, a telecommunications pioneer, and William and Karen Workman, noted anthropologists and archaeologists in Alaska. Marie Meade will also be honored with a Meritorious Service Award.
