Physics and math have fascinated Nathaniel Cox since his days at East High. Science and math led him to engineering and a research effort that the newly minted National Science Foundation fellow hopes will enhance the lives of people in areas affected by climate change.

Board of Regents to discuss university budget, Strategic Pathways and enrollment at June 2017 meeting

The University of Alaska Board of Regents will address the university’s FY18 budget at its June 1-2 meeting in Fairbanks. In addition, the regents will hear plans for increasing UA enrollment, recommendations and a progress report on the Strategic Pathways process and a presentation from national experts on effective state university structures.

Parking Services office will be closed June 2–8, 2017 for relocation

Parking Services office will be closed June 2–8 for the relocation of our office. We are moving to Eugene Short Hall, 2601 Providence Drive. During this closure, permits can be purchased and citations can be appealed online at uaa.thepermitstore.com. Calls for service, such as vehicle unlocks and jump starts, will be available from the Call Team at (907) 786-1103.

Ski leader puts the UAA in Team Australia

This was a busy semester for Casey Wright. In addition to weekend road trips with the UAA Nordic team, she also flew to Japan to compete in Olympic qualifiers for Team Australia. But despite her busy travel schedule, Casey still boasts a 4.0 GPA.

Selkregg Award mobile foot clinic project helps UAA students reach out to homeless

WWAMI anatomy instructor Jamie Elswick won the 2017 Selkregg Community Engagement & Learning Award with a mobile foot- and wound-care clinic idea inspired by a service-learning partnership UAA's Dr. Michele Burdette-Taylor launched at Central Lutheran Church. The project will help her students gain valuable “street medicine” expertise while earning credit; volunteer nurses are on hand in case a person at the clinic needs care that is outside a student’s skill set.

Daniel White appointed as new UAF chancellor

University of Alaska President Jim Johnsen announced today that he has selected Daniel White to become the eighth chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). White will succeed UAF Interim Chancellor Dana Thomas and will assume his new position on July 1.
