To celebrate Archives Month, the UAA/APU Archives and Special Collections is hosting an open house Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This is a great opportunity to learn about and look at the different types of collections we have. We will also feature Alaska photographs and film, and provide tours of our vault.

The UAA/APU Consortium Library will host a free workshop Oct. 19, 2017 on U.S. Census Bureau data and tools. Participants will learn about the types of data the Census Bureau produces and how to locate data using various tools. Learn more and RSVP.

Fall 2017: Care Team Book Club meets Thursdays to discuss 'I Am Malala'

The Care Team Book Club aims to encourage a connected, caring community focused on enriching Anchorage, from the university into the community. For fall 2017, the group is reading "I Am Malala."

UAA professors connect new teachers with classroom libraries

Assistant professors Kathryn Ohle and Jennifer McKay have joined forces to help newly graduated UAA teachers build their classroom libraries. With support from the UAA Center for Community Engagement and Learning, and book donations from retiring teachers, the project is off to a successful start.

'From Dream to Discovery: Inside NASA' premieres at UAA Planetarium - Oct. 20, 2017

Learn about the five major aspects of a mission life cycle—design, construction, testing, launch and operations—through examples of actual NASA missions. Each of the show’s three sections starts with a set-up question that defines the “problem” an engineering team aims to solve, giving audiences a balanced, large-scale overview of spacecraft engineering, described contextually using exciting, real-life projects.

Great Alaska Shakeout 2017

Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at 10:19 a.m. is the next international earthquake exercise. UAA will be participating as part of the Great Alaska Shakeout, and may have a TV news team on the Anchorage campus. The Homeland Security earthquake simulator trailer will be outside the Student Union from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
