August 2018: Volunteer to help with Native Early Transition program freshmen check-in, Aug. 20

Native Student Services is looking for volunteers to help check in 75 Alaska Native/Rural Freshmen for the Native Early Transition program on Monday, Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Rasmuson Hall, Room 108.

Important notice about FERPA and course merging in Blackboard

During the spring semester the Registrar's Office learned that course sections were being inappropriately merged in Blackboard. For example, four sections of COMM A111 were being merged so a faculty member could manage all four sections as if they were one. This practice cannot continue because it isn't permissible under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

UAA scientists are in the middle of a two-year assignment to monitor the roosting and migrating behavior of Alaska's little brown bats in light of the devastating white-nose syndrome that has killed 6 million bats across the U.S. and Canada.

Microbiologists work with NASA to observe E. coli in space to find more efficient biofuel

Dr. Brandon Briggs is an associate professor of biological sciences who has recently worked with NASA to send strains of E. coli to the International Space Station. By studying E. coli under the microgravity of space, Briggs hopes to find a way to produce the biofuel isobutene more efficiently.
