A member of UAA's contracted cleaning team tested positive after working in the Student Union on the Anchorage campus. The individual last worked in the Student Union building on July 21 from 7 p.m.–1 a.m. Since finding out they were infected, this contracted employee has not been in the building and has been self-isolating. We ask that you please respect the privacy of this individual during this time.

Geared towards how faculty interact with the new online bookstore, powered by Akademos. Zoom demo hosted by Akademos showing the nuts and bolts of how to log in to the system, new features available to help faculty adopt textbooks and materials, and powerful analytics to show how students are purchasing textbooks and course materials.

Democracy and Civic Action Week events explore diverse perspectives about the role of democracy and civic engagement in the United States. Departments, programs, clubs and organizations across campus are invited to present a wide-range of online activities to engage both campus and community members in reflecting on their rights and responsibilities that are fundamental to creating a civil society.

Academic Open Houses are for students to connect with the college of their choice. This is a time for incoming students to meet with faculty and students, connect with advisors and learn about options for various majors. Students will gain a deeper understanding of how UAA's major will set you up for success after graduation, as well as make sure everyone is ready for the first day of class on Aug. 24.

Earlier today you received a communication from Acting President Rizk announcing the University of Alaska Board of Regents (BOR) approved changes to BOR policy based on new federal Title IX guidelines.

In response to new federal Title IX guidelines, the Board of Regents approved significant revisions to Regents’ policy, and Acting UA President Michelle Rizk has signed the enabling regulations regarding sex and gender based discrimination. The changes detail new specific procedures that all universities must follow in cases of sexual harassment and assault on campuses in accordance with the new federal rule, and become effective Aug. 14, 2020.

By now, you have likely seen the UA system communication outlining updated guidance for the approaching fall semester. I would like to take this time to reiterate these updates and reaffirm my commitment to work with my leadership team as well as local government leaders to make informed decisions and develop policies that make the most sense for UAA.

Congratulations to UAA's Copy & Print Center for earning first-place honors with the Association of College and University Printers (ACUP+). The Association is the leading professional organization in the U.S. dedicated to supporting educational in-plant print and mail operations.

Individual students, student organizations and UAA departments are invited to submit a dialogue topic for the weekly series around THE BIG QUESTIONS IN LIFE. Questions are due Aug. 3 at 5 p.m. The committee will review the questions/topics Aug. 5.
