Call for Pre-Proposals: Transformative Research in Metabolism

The Center for Transformative Research in Metabolism (TRiM), supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health, National Institutes of General Medical Sciences (Award P20GM130443) is calling for Pre-Proposals to fund developmental research projects in the biomedical and health sciences for eligible UAF and UAA new investigators. TRiM’s central scientific focus is on the regulation of metabolic flexibility, anabolic sensitivity, and energy homeostasis and includes basic, translational, and clinical research informed by hibernation biology.

Campus wildlife: Tips for safety and coexisting

Although the presence of wildlife may delight some and annoy/frighten others, conflicts with wildlife can be avoided if you stay aware and give the animals space. Go about your life (observing from a distance) while giving the animals the respect to go about theirs.

Believing in a holistic approach to health care, she has dedicated her 14-year career to ensuring Alaskans who are uninsured or living in underserved areas have access to affordable dental care.

2020 Alumni Emerging Leader Dr. Reem Sheikh is a podiatric surgeon and attending faculty at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Earlier this year, she raised over $18,000 to secure personal protective equipment for health care workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Join climate scientist and lifelong Alaskan Zach Brown, Ph.D., for a journey into the climate crisis and how we can tackle it. Zach will describe his work in the polar latitudes studying how warming and sea ice loss affect the Arctic and Antarctic ecosystems.
