UAA Faculty Senate wishes to congratulate those faculty receiving promotion and tenure this past academic year with a digital celebration. Senior Vice Provost Renee Carter-Chapman retired from UAA following more than four decades of service. Her ability to listen and gather talented, dedicated individuals together to reach consensus on how to solve problems and support efforts to achieve goals has served UAA and its home communities well.

Beginning Sept. 1, 2020, users can no longer use Banner 8. All functional areas, including HR, Finance, Student and Financial Aid, have had access to the upgraded platform since October 2018.

UAA has a plan for reporting and tracking COVID-19 cases on campus. In brief, if you have been in UAA facilities within 48 hours of a COVID-positive test, displaying COVID symptoms or are part of an investigation being conducted by public health personnel, please call 907-205-6941 and email the Environmental Health & Safety Department to start the process. Case management will be supported by environmental health as well as public health contact tracers.

UAA General Support Services and the Surplus team has implemented a new online method for departments to view inventory and claim items. We are very pleased to be able to offer a new system to UAA departments that will make viewing and selection of items for re-use on campus a better experience!

The Alaska IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (AK INBRE 4), supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health, is soliciting applications for its Multi-Year Developmental Research Pilot Project. These grants are awarded each year for developmental research projects in the biomedical and health sciences to partner institutions in Alaska to improve competitiveness for winning ongoing, independent support for research and graduate student training programs.

The UAA Student Emergency Fund was established 20 years ago to help students experiencing a financial emergency due to unexpected events, such as loss of housing, an unanticipated medical bill or paying utilities. Since the pandemic crisis began, UAA has received over 340 applications requesting financial assistance from students ranging in need from helping to pay for academic course materials and technology to covering rent and purchasing food.

The Alaska Humanities Forum is hosting a three-part series called Racism in Alaska: What is Our Capacity to Change. Events include Racism: Stories from Alaska (Aug. 17, noon); Racism: Integenerational Perspectives (Aug. 18, noon); and Racism: Pathways Forward (Aug. 19, noon).
