Despite the typical challenges of operating a business, plus the difficulties presented by a once-in-a-generation pandemic, these alumni-owned businesses have endured, thanks in part to community solidarity, government investment and forward thinking.

ISER Webinar - Census Bureau Data: Balancing Privacy and Accuracy

Alaska has joined several other states to sue the Census Bureau about reporting data from the 2020 US Census. Census data are used to draw legislative districts, allocate billions of federal funds to communities each year, and measure prevalence rates for health conditions, criminal victimization, and many other population-based measures. The agency has delayed reporting the detailed results from the 2020 Census while it finalizes a new strategy for protecting privacy of respondents.

UA President Pat Pitney has selected former Alaska Governor Sean Parnell to serve as the next UAA chancellor. Parnell succeeds UAA Interim Chancellor Bruce Schultz and will assume his new position on June 12, 2021.

Be aware of wildlife on and around campus

A black bear with cubs has been spotted on and around the Anchorage campus, specifically in the area near the Engineering & Industry Building. Although foot traffic on campus is minimal, this is a good time to remind everyone to be aware of surroundings and take safety precautions when venturing outside.
