NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates Proposal

The UAA Office of Research is working toward developing an NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Proposal. We are targeting a multi-disciplinary REU site that requires a common coherent theme across disciplines. Our current working theme is Research Experience in Cold Climate Engineering, and Science (RECESS).

Residence Coordinator (RC) Open Forums

Candidates were asked to prepare a 15-20 minute presentation on the following topic to start the open forum: "In a world still in the grips of a pandemic, many aspects of our lives still exist in a virtual space. What does this mean for residential communities at universities where a majority of courses are now being taught online? What aspects of the experience of living on-campus would you highlight to attract this generation of students?"

After a one-week delay due to a COVID-19 outbreak, the members of the House debated the operating budget, House Bill 281, on the House floor.

UAA students, faculty and staff participate in Arctic symposium

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to welcome the delegates at one of the largest Arctic policy events in the United States, and share the great work we’re doing at UAA. The Arctic Encounter Symposium in Anchorage gathered scientists, Indigenous leaders, policymakers, business leaders and students.

On Thursday, April 7, Dr. Cana Uluak Itchuaqiyaq (Iñupiaq, Noorvik) will share her journey as an Alaska Native scholar, from undergrad and Ph.D. to university faculty. Her talk, “An Inuk in the Institution: Centering Clanwork & Community as a Matter of Course,” will explain how she has used her Iñupiaq identity and cultural knowledge as a lens to best understand her coursework and research.
