Portland, Ore. (Jan. 20) – After posting a pair of double-doubles in big home victories, UAA senior Tori Hollingshead was named Monday as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for women’s basketball.
A 6' 3'' center, Hollingshead averaged 17.0 points on 62 percent shooting, 11.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks as UAA defeated Simon Fraser and Western Washington at the Alaska Airlines Center.
On Thursday, the Orem, Utah, native had 21 points (9-15 FG, 3-4 FT), 10 rebounds and four steals as the Seawolves outlasted the Red Leafs 78-63. Two nights later she tallied 13 points – including three baskets in the final 3:31 – and had 12 rebounds, two assists and three blocks in a 67-59 win over the Vikings. The former Umpqua (Ore.) Community College standout also helped UAA to rebounding advantages of 43-33 over SFU and 43-21 over WWU.
“Tori stepped up big time for us this past week as we dealt with an injury that required her to play a lot more minutes,” said UAA coach Ryan McCarthy. “We have seen Tori take over in games before, but what impressed me most was her focus and improvement on the defensive end. She can switch out onto guards and bother them with her length, and she is a very good rim protector. She brought her best on both ends of the floor and played some of her best basketball last week.”
It is the third GNAC weekly honor this season for the Seawolves, along with Emilia Long’s awards in early November and early December.
Riding a six-game winning streak and leading the GNAC by two games, the Seawolves (16-2, 7-0 GNAC) return to the road for games this week at Seattle Pacific (Thur., 6:30 pm AST) and nationally ranked Montana State Billings (Sat., 2:15 pm AST). Find live video and stats links at GoSeawolves.com.
