Georgetown, Colo. – Ella Bromee led the University of Alaska Anchorage ski team with second-place finish in the slalom at the RMISA Alpine Qualifier Monday.

Bromee posted the second-fastest first run and finished with a two-run time of 1:30.52, only .31 seconds behind race winner Sara Rask of Denver.

Carmen Nielssen finished ninth (1:32.20), and Ashleigh Alexander was 13th (1:32.87).

Ainsley Proffit was in fifth position after the first run but finished 17th (1:33.38).

Jan Ronner recorded the third-fastest first run on his way to finishing tied for eighth (1:29.56).

Carlo Cordone posted the fourth-fastest second run to finish 22nd (1:30.69).

Other finishes for the UAA men included Dylan Timm 32nd (1:32.87), Caeden Carruthers 37th (1:34.64), Hunter Eid 41st (1:35.81) and Will Cashmore 43rd (1:36.33).

“Good start to our NCAA season on the alpine side,” said head coach Sparky Anderson. “Obviously thrilled with Ella’s podium result, that’s been coming for some time. I think it’s clear that she can compete with anyone on any stage. The women had an outstanding day. Three in the top-13. Ainsley piped first run and was sitting in fifth after the first run, but got hung up on a late combo. That’s ski racing. It’s very early, but I like our footing. The guys had some chances as well. Jan was third going into the second run, but had two missteps that cost him the podium. We’re excited about his top-10 finish, and we know the rest of the group will continue to rise through the ranks. Nice move up for Carlo today who scored his first NCAA points of his young career.”

UAA will compete in the slalom races at the DU Invite Tuesday.
