Board of Regents reinstates Alpine skiing

After a remarkable campaign raising two years of operating expenses, the UA Board of Regents voted to reinstate Alpine skiing on Jan. 15, one of three programs eliminated from Seawolf Athletics to accommodate reduced state funding for the university.

Job opportunity: Academic Affairs Compliance Specialist

Academic Affairs is seeking a Compliance Specialist. The Academic Affairs Compliance Specialist is responsible for maintaining knowledge of compliance requirements and for establishing systems to document, archive and report compliance with those requirements, including for state authorization, licensure and certification, institutional accreditation, and state and federal laws related to the work of the Office of Academic Affairs. The position also develops and sustains effective and efficient processes for the development, approval, archiving and updating of academic agreements, and generally supports the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness in areas of compliance.

2021 UAA Textbook Affordability Fellows — Now Accepting Applications

Be a part of an innovative learning community that makes higher education more accessible for Alaska’s learners. Textbook Affordability Fellows combine sound course design, technological integration, and material affordability to enhance both teaching and learning. The emphasis for our 2021-2022 Textbook Affordability Fellowship will be to design or re-design courses using free-to-access course materials, such as Open Educational Resources (OERs).

UA BOR reinstates Alpine skiing

The University of Alaska Board of Regents voted to reinstate the Alpine ski team at the University of Alaska Anchorage Friday. The board's action was in response to its September decision to consider reinstatement of the program if the team could successfully reach established fundraising goals. That effort, led by head coach Sparky Anderson, resulted in local, regional and national supporters exceeding the goal of $628,000, equal to two years of operating expenses.

BOR extends Pitney’s presidential term, discusses racial equity initiative and votes to reinstate UAA Alpine skiing

At its meeting today, the University of Alaska Board of Regents extended the term of UA Interim President Pat Pitney to ensure stability in leadership while the university continues to navigate budget stability and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The search for the next president is anticipated to begin in spring 2022.

Webinar series on Artificial Intelligence to begin Jan. 20

UAA's College of Business and Public Policy has developed a four-part webinar series on Artificial Intelligence, which will debut on Wednesday, Jan. 20, from noon to 1 p.m. with Russell Frew, most recently Chief Engineer for Lockheed Martin. Russell will discuss how AI has evolved and impacted industry, the Department of Defense and the intelligence community.

Spring 2021 Topic Series

UA Human Resources Labor and Employee Engagement will be hosting the Topic Series this Spring. The Topic Series is a platform for provoking thoughtful and meaningful discussions between UA employees. Martin Luther King Day of Service Opportunity

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal and state holiday recognizing the birthday of MLK. It is the only federal holiday designated a national day of service, denoted as a “day on, not a day off.” The MLK Day of Service encourages all Americans to improve our communities through volunteer service. It helps to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, address social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a Beloved Community.
