Categories and Criteria
The UAA Chancellor's Awards for Excellence accepts nominations in five categories. Awards in each category are open to individuals from the Anchorage campus, and an awardee in each category will come from the community campuses. In all, there will be 12 awards. Awardees will receive $500.00. If there are no eligible nominations for a category then no award will be made for that category. Deadline for 2024 nominations is Friday, May 10, 2024.

We Put Students First: The Students-First Award
Faculty (including Adjunct Faculty) and staff | Four awards cumulatively, two for faculty and two for staff members. | One faculty and one staff will be awarded from the Anchorage campus. | One faculty and one staff selected, each from a community campus.
Demonstrates exceptional commitment to advancing a culture of institutional excellence that inspires and enables student achievement and success in two or more of the following aspects:
Criteria
- Instruction and learning experiences
- Building and developing curriculum and learning resources
- Mentoring students
- Advancing student excellence
- Advancing teaching excellence.
- Outstanding contribution to student achievement that improves transition to higher education, performance and grades so that most students persist and complete their educational goals
- Demonstrated innovative and creative approaches in advising, programming, partnerships, outreach and support services that identify and remove barriers to success.
- Level “above & beyond” normal job requirements/functions
Nominate a faculty or staff member for the Students-First Award.
We Create a Culture of Equity and Inclusion by Embracing Our Diversity: The Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award
Faculty (including Adjunct Faculty) or Staff | Two awards per year, one awardee from the Anchorage campus and one awardee from a community campus.
Outstanding contribution to the advancement of diversity and inclusion of UAA students, staff and faculty through increasing the visibility and representation of diverse voices, creating an atmosphere of inclusiveness and community.
Criteria
- Impact level showing advancement of diversity for students, faculty and staff
- Impact level creating an atmosphere of inclusiveness and community
- Level “above & beyond” normal job requirements/functions
- Impact to advancing UAA’s Mission
- Other noteworthy qualities considered
Nominate a faculty or staff member for the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award.
We Advance Innovation: The Research and Creative Activity Award
Faculty (including Adjunct Faculty) or Staff | Two awards per year, one awardee from the Anchorage campus and one awardee from a community campus.
Outstanding contribution to growth in research, creative activity and commercialization at UAA with impacts that benefit our state and communities.
Criteria
- Demonstrated work supporting and expanding faculty and student research
- Strategic approach to creating external partnerships around research and creative activities
- Fostering commercialization of intellectual property by creating a climate of innovation and collaboration
- Contribution to the university community through excellence in research, student mentorship, or creativity
- Significance of direct impact of support efforts on university and its mission
- Other noteworthy qualities considered
Nominate a faculty or staff member for the Research and Creative Activity Award.
We Accelerate Excellence Through Continuous Improvement: The Administrative Excellence Award
Staff | Two awards per year, one awardee from the Anchorage campus and one awardee selected from a community campus.
Exercises leadership, initiative and outstanding teamwork capabilities that create a positive atmosphere, and consistently performs at a level above normal job requirements to advance a culture of institutional excellence that inspires and enables student, faculty and staff success.

- Level “above and beyond” normal job requirements/functions
- Impact to advancing UAA’s Mission

Nominate a staff member for the Administrative Excellence Award.
The Chancellor’s Choice Award - Philanthropic Excellence
Faculty (including Adjunct Faculty) or staff | Two awards per year, one awardee from the Anchorage campus and one awardee selected from a community campus.
Award for achievement and/or innovation (best idea) in a category/theme of the Chancellor's choice. The theme for 2024 Chancellor's Choice Award centers on philanthropic excellence.
While fundraising professional play a crucial role in the success of university philanthropic initiatives, they couldn't be as successful without the support of faculty and staff. Faculty and staff actively engage with donors, fostering relationships and providing valuable expertise on the impact of philanthropic investments in their respective fields. They contribute to stewardship by sharing insights and helping identify potential donors and funding opportunities.
Criteria
- Shows exceptional leadership in philanthropic fundraising
- Has a proven track record of collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to identify or secure philanthropic dollars
- Demonstrates exemplary stewardship of philanthropic funds and donors
