Program Requirements
All information regarding program requirements can be found in the Master of Science in School Psychology - Specialist catalog. Special note: changes are being updated to the current online catalog to be effective for Fall 2025 include a change in total Practicum hours to 300 and a few course changes.
The program consists of 63 credits and a 1,200-hour, full-time internship. You must also pass the Praxis II exam. For questions about transfer in credits see Admissions Requirements.

Special Program Requirement Considerations
- Candidates must have a current fingerprint and background check on file prior to field placement in the first semester.
- Candidates must attend a 2-day on-campus orientation the week prior to the start of classes (typically 3rd week in August).
- Candidates must complete the four online mandatory trainings for teacher certification as outlined by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development by the end of the first year.
- Candidates must attend one on-campus weekend per semester in the spring (year 1), fall (year 2), and spring (year 2)*
- Candidate must attend an on-campus intensive for the Assessment I course during the summer (year 1)
- Candidates must join student membership in one national and preferably one state professional organization
- Candidate must successfully complete the required field experiences
