Detailed Intimate Partner Abuse Results

Intimate partner abuse is more than physical violence. It also includes psychological aggression (insulting and humiliating behaviors) and coercive control and entrapment (behaviors that are intended to monitor, control, or threaten).

Estimates of Alaskan women's experiences with intimate partner abuse in 2020 are presented below. These estimates are separated into sub-components.

 

Psychological aggression by an intimate partner (composite)


This is separated into two types:

  • Partners acting angry in a way that seemed dangerous
  • Using verbal humiliation or disparagement

Coercive control and entrapment by an intimate partner (composite)


This is separated into four types:

  • Controlling actions and decisions
  • Threatening harm or removal of people/things important to her
  • Hurting or destroying people/things important to her
  • Controlling reproductive health

Physical violence (composite)


This is not separated into sub-components.
